Our Cosmic Address

Do you know your home address ? of course you do. But do you know your address in the universe ? We are living on the best planet of the solar system "The Earth". We also refer to it as 'HOME'. Today you will know about your address in the Cosmos. So without any delay let's begin and uncover an interesting topic of the Cosmos.

The First Line Of Our Cosmic Address : THE EARTH

Well you must be familiar with this word. Must have heard it several times in normal conversation or at-least in school. It is the planet we live on, We call it Home. The only planet in solar system that could sustain life. It has all type of essential services to for numerous forms of life including humans to live and grow . The oxygen to breathe, The atmosphere, the gravity and many more. Life have been flourishing on this planet for ages now. We have looked into space as far as we can but still we couldn't find another planet like this. It was just the beginning let's move on and discover the second line of our cosmic address.

Second Line Of Our Cosmic Address : The Solar System

What is solar system ?

A system of skeptical bodies bound to the gravitational pull of The Sun. They all revolve around the Sun in elliptical orbits.

Why is it called Solar System ?

The prime star of our solar system is the Sun. It's Latin name is 'Sol'. Which is why our solar system is called so.

Our solar system has 9 planets including The Earth,

The greatest of them is Jupiter.

The farthest ? Pluto.

The closes to sun ? Mercury.

Most of us know very well know about solar system. So let's just save ourselves some time and move on to next step.

Third Line Of Our Cosmic Address : Orion Arm

Imagine you are looking at our solar system in a picture if you zoom in you can find earth and other planets. But what if you zoom out ? You will be able to see the whole galaxy.

Milky way galaxy has a spiral structure. One of it's many arms is called the Orion Arm in which our solar system resides. In the bottom of the above picture you can see the Orion arm and location of our Sun in it. Whereas the upper portion of the picture shows the Milky Way galaxy and the position of Orion arm in it.

Feeling small yet ? well don't, because You are not just a part of this universe. You are the Universe.

Get ready because we are halfway down our cosmic address.Keeping same energy and enthusiasm, Let's move to the next line of our cosmic address.

The Fourth Line Of Our Cosmic Address : The Milky Way Galaxy

I must be stupid to ask but Do you know where the Orion arm is located ?

Yes ! The answers is The Milky Way Galaxy. It has spiral structure. We don't know how many star systems would be out there in different arms of this galaxy and some planets in those star systems may also sustain life just like our Earth. But we are limited by the technology of our time thus we cannot explore them. In future we may be able to find another habitable planet lying well within our reach.

The Milky way galaxy is estimated to contain near about 400 billion stars and more than 100 billion planets.

Fifth Line Of Our Cosmic Address : Local Group

This group of more than 50 galaxies is called the Local Group. It includes our galaxy which is The Milky way , Andromeda and many more.

This group has binary (dumbell shape). The Diameter from one end of the group to the other is 10 million light years. and it's center is somewhere near Milky Way galaxy.

" Light Year : The distance traveled by light in one year is called a light Year "

According to Wikipedia The Local group Means "A typical small group of nebulae which is isolated in the general field"

Sixth Line of Our Cosmic Address : Virgo Cluster

Can You spot the Milky Way galaxy in the above picture ?

No! Well no problem it is supposed to be difficult because there are approximately 1300 galaxies in the Virgo Cluster which itself is just a small part of the Universe.

On a clear night you could try to find the Virgo constellation in the sky, then using a telescope you can see some of the brightest members of the Virgo Cluster. Using a 6-Inch telescope you can see around 160 galaxies of the cluster.

Seventh Line Of Our Cosmic Address : The Virgo Supercluster

The Diameter of this Supercluster is 110 million light years. Which contain Virgo Cluster and around 110 galaxy groups and clusters.

It has Kind of irregular shape , The combination of a flattened disk and a spherical halo. The disk part contains more than 60% of the most luminous galaxies of the Supercluster.

Eighth line of Our Cosmic Address : The Observable

Universe

The region which have been explored from earth or from outer space using telescopes, skeptical probes and space missions is termed as the observable Universe. For all we know there are at-least 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe. The observable universe has spherical shape.

This was the last line of our cosmic address.

But It is not the END. The universe could be far more vastly spread than we can ever imagine.

The Multiverse Theory : It is been said that our universe is enclosed in a bubble like structure and there are infinite number of such bubbles out there. Means the universe is not one but many. We call refer to them together as The Multiverse
